Peter Tork, Ringo Starr remember Davy Jones - The Music Mix

In a statement to EW, the Beatles drummer Ringo Starr said of Jones’ passing, “God bless Davy. Peace & Love to his family.” (The Monkees and the Beatles were friendly rivals; the Monkees’ “Randy Scouse Git” song was even inspired by a party the Beatles hosted for the “Daydream Believer” band.) Monkees singer Davy Jones dies at 66 – USATODAY.com

Davy Jones, the mop-topped leader of 1960s pop band The Monkees, died Wednesday of a massive heart attack. Jones was 66. His publicist, Helen Kensick, said the singer died in Indiantown, Fla., where he lived. With an infectious smile and easy humor, the diminutive Brit played the Paul McCartney role in the Beatles-inspired quartet, which also included Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith. The Buffalo Springfield Reunion Appears To Be Over - Rolling Stone

Buffalo Springfield played their first shows since splitting up in 1968 at the Bridge School Benefit in the fall of 2010. The next summer they played a six-date theater tour of California before performing at Bonnaroo. Around that time, Richie Furay said that a thirty date tour was being booked for later in the year, but they later said the timeline moved to sometime in 2012. "This delay happened for a multitude of reasons," Richie Furay's manager David Spero told Rolling Stone last September. "The plan is still to tour next year. There's not a timeline at this point. Buffalo Springfield is at the top of Neil's list of priorities. It's just a matter of finding a time that works for everybody." Read More - Rolling Stone

Happy birthday, George Harrison

The first song I ever remember hearing was Here Comes the Sun, which Mom and Dad used to play on a record player they'd drag out to the backyard while I ran around on the small bit of grass outside, just me, a little dope in a baby girl's dress, chewing on some toy or batting around some ball and dancing on the spot while they cheered me on. The 60s Revolution and Innovation

Singer-songwriter Cat Stevens said, “If you want to be free, be free, because there are a million things to be.” Stevens was right. The counterculture of the 60s was a time of divided opinions, environmentalism, legendary music, roads less travelled, and civil rights. The push for change was led by catalysts ranging from John Lennon to John F. Kennedy, from Muhammad Ali to Martin Luther King Jr., and others who were not afraid to go in a different direction. Fabfouria! Celebrates George Harrison’s Birthday With New Questions But You Have To Think For Yourself

Honoring George Harrison and his fellow Beatles, the new updated Fabfouria! app contains more than 50 questions about George. Based on Brooke Halpin’s recent quiz book, Do You Really Know The Beatles?, the updated Fabfouria! app covers the different periods of The Beatles history from early Beatlemania, to their tours, movies, recordings, and their solo years. Unlike the book, the questions have been converted into multiple choice.

The new update features 300 additional questions available for purchase and up to 50 free bonus questions that players can earn. Some of the questions present entertaining, brain teasing word play on Beatle songs. For example, if you like to sail ships and chop trees, what else might you like to do? The game continues to include some creative and entertaining visual and personality touches that hopefully elicit the same fun loving spirit and creativity that embodies the Beatles' musical and cultural legacy.

"I've been an avid Beatles fan for more than forty years, and Fabfouria challenges me each time I play," says customer Paul Williams, who grew up to the sounds of his parents' Beatles records playing on the family turntable. "The game covers the band, the songs, the times and so many interesting and unusual facts. We and our kids have so much fun playing it together, and I think they've learned more Beatles info from this app than most people ever know."

Robert Fitzpatrick, The Beatles former US Attorney says, “This quiz is perfect for Beatle trivia enthusiasts of all ages. It has a wide variety of questions, ranging from easy to challenging. Fabfouria is immensely informative. It even has questions that I couldn't answer!”

The new Fabfouria! updated app is available at the App Store on iTunes or go to: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fabfouria!/id479157119?ls=1&mt=8

Primal Scream: The Trauma Behind John Lennon’s Brilliant Plastic Ono Band

Beatles fans who favored John Lennon’s most deeply personal songs – “Julia,” “I’m a Loser,” “Help!” – could scarcely have imagined the searing introspection Lennon would unleash with his first post-Beatles solo album. Released in December 1970, Plastic Ono Band gave new meaning to so-called confessional songwriting. Framed by rock’s most basic instrumentation – bass (played by Klaus Voormann), drums (played by Ringo Starr) and guitar and piano (played by Lennon himself), the former Beatle presented himself in all his myriad guises, from angry rebel to devoted soulmate to questing artist striving to free himself from the shackles of Beatledom.
