Music review: James McCartney 'The Complete EP Collection' - NewsOK.com

James McCartney's Rickenbacker guitar and clear vocals on “Angel” offer the key highlight on the “Available Light” disc, and “Glisten” showcases his talent for stream-of-consciousness lyricism — the ballad sounds like a solid Neil Finn song. But McCartney runs out of steam quickly, ending the original five songs with a forgettable cover of Neil Young's “Old Man.” Read More - NewsOK.com

‘Going solo is a strong sign of togetherness’

I don’t really know how England had felt when George Harrison went solo in the late 1960s, or when Mick Jagger had staggered over to take charge of a band in fritters in the late 1970s. In India, we have grown up listening to maestros who refuse to age or be defeated by a drug or feel berated by something as unfortunate as lack of love for their co-artistes. We see the musical greats bonding with music through love, defying, years and sometimes even personal tragedies Read More - dailypioneer

Grammy Museum Exhibit Celebrates George Harrison's Life and Music - LA.com

Critics and fans called him "The Quiet Beatle", but to his friends and family he was simply known as George. George Harrison spent the better part of his post-Beatles years searching for spiritual enlightenment, which is why he's wrongly perceived to be an elusive figure, troubled at times by his status as a rock music icon. Although that may have been partially true, George Harrison spent much of his post-Beatles career putting out critically acclaimed solo albums, making music with a new band called the Traveling Wilburys, even producing movies for the legendary British comedy troupe, Monty Python. Albert Maysles Reveals the Human Behind ex-Beatle Paul McCartney in The Love We Make - The Exhibitionist

The footage of McCartney schmoozing backstage with the likes of Eric Clapton, Harrison Ford, former New York Gov. George Pataki, and President Bill Clinton does not consist of mutual ego-stroking. Instead it reveals the extraordinarily high regard in which McCartney is held by everyone who meets him at the show. Comparing these scenes to the footage of McCartney on the streets of New York earlier in the film reveals a common thread -- that McCartney is beloved by his fans as a performer and as a human being, whether those fans are strangers on the street, colleagues in show business, or powerful world leaders. Fifty years ago in December 1961, Brian Epstein made a leap of faith that he could change his life and the lives of four young musicians. The story behind the Wray inscription is that John and Yoko were getting out of the lift at 1700 Broadway, which houses Allen Klein's office, when they were confronted by Wray, who was going up to Polydor's offices in the same building. Wray apparently said, "Hey – John and Yoko." John didn't say anything to him, but turned to Yoko and breathed: "Yoko, that's Link Wray. Without him..." On Second Thought: The Beatles – Love (2006)

And then there was Love, the odd concoction that straddled the middle ground between the two, both a best-of and something a bit new, if only because it never existed in this particular form before. And this is where the casual fans make out best: They could pick up something like Love and just enjoy it for what it was, rather than picking it apart before it even reached store shelves, or just plain filing it away in the “failure” folder without even hearing it. That’s what many dedicated Beatles fans tend to do because, as it is widely known, this music is holy and must not be touched! Do not touch! Paul McCartney – review

All is very much as it should be on this thoroughly enjoyable night. A trim and dapper McCartney plays dozens of Beatles songs; he spreads out some Wings. He delivers mouldy anecdotes about John and George and indulges in bouts of wiggly-bum dad-dancing. These start off as knowing parody and come all the way back around to naff, as do the man's little mannerisms. Lessons We Can Learn From Lennon

Although it probably fueled his creativity and music, John Lennon was in anguish for most of his life, and through all of his years of crazy celebrity and his very public life, there was always an immense load of baggage that John carried. A rough childhood led to his mother’s death when John was 18. When he was 21 his best friend died, and then the whirlwind of Beatlemania took over his life. Through it all, until he was in his late 30s, John didn’t really deal with his darkness. Who knows what this may have cost him. John would not find peace in his own life or beyond it until he dealt with his demons, and he was not able to connect with his wife or sons until he found that peace. Record Rewind: The Beatles - 'Rubber Soul' - Ology

Arguably the first classic demonstration of the LP album as a legitimate artistic form, The Beatles' sixth studio album, 1965's Rubber Soul, was their first of several major artistic leaps, both musically and lyrically. Influenced in equal parts by Dylan, The Byrds, their creative and commercial rivals The Beach Boys, and (ahem) their newfound love of chemical experimentation, Rubber Soul works as a cohesive whole rather than a strung-together series of radio-ready pop singles. From the Eastern psychedelia of "Norwegian Wood" through the wistful French romanticism of "Michelle" and George Martin's memorable bridge section on "In My Life", Rubber Soul was the beginning of the Beatles' second, more adventurous phase. It precedes the vast experimentation of Revolver and Sgt. Pepper and remains one of their most enjoyable and best recordings. More/W/Music - Ology
