John Lennon The Comic Book Coming This December - AllAccess.com

In the pantheon of musical legends, JOHN LENNON is at the top of the mountain, if not the king of the mountain. From his time with THE BEATLES and his solo projects, he asked the world to ignore borders and divisions, and instead he encouraged the average person to embrace what brings people together. And when his life ended viciously from an assassin's bullet in 1980, the music industry, and the world, lost an advocate for peace, love and true musicality. Read More - AllAccess.com

GOOD OL' FREDA - A Film Made For Beatles Fans....By Beatles Fans

GOOD OL' FREDA is a documentary film about the untold story of Freda Kelly, The Beatles' trusted secretary and friend throughout their rise to fame. The movie's title comes from the line The Beatles shouted out to her on their legendary 1963 Christmas record to their fans. The filmmakers are currently trying to raise the funds to finish the film on Kickstarter, a website where you can make a donation to a film and get a reward in return (signed DVDs, photos of Freda with the Beatles, even lunch or a personal tour of Liverpool w/ Freda!) They are trying to raise $50,000 by 11-11-11.

Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing website, so if they don't raise the full $50,000 they get nothing! Please check out http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1215635909/good-ol-freda. to read more about it and consider backing this very worthwhile film. There's a great video you can watch of Freda explaining what the film will be about. It's been 50 years (!) since Freda began her work for the Fab Four and this movie will be the first time she's sharing her memories, so please help us make this Kickstarter campaign go viral and help the filmmakers get it completed and preserve Freda's stories forever!

Beatles fans can also help Freda and the filmmakers by sending an email to their mailing lists as well, and also to Facebook/Twitter friends encouraging them to donate quickly before this golden opportunity to preserve Freda's stories is lost. They can use the above title, kickstarter link, and blurb language to make it easy to forward. The key is to 'Make a Donation Now!' so the filmmakers make their goal by 11-11-11.

Former Beatles manager: I still lose sleep over my decision to sell the band for £9 - The Daily Record

In the late 50s, Williams was the owner of two Liverpool clubs, the Blue Angel and the Jacaranda. The Beatles were frequent customers at the Jacaranda and began playing there. In May 1960, Williams secured the tour of Scotland as a backing band to singer Johnny Gentle and then the gigs in Hamburg. He continued to get them bookings until he fell out with them in 1961 over the £9. Epstein took over in January 1962 and by the end of the year they were the biggest band in the country. EMI's fall the outcome of Citigroup's need - guardian.co.uk

It is a sign of everything that has gone wrong with advanced capitalism that Citigroup owns a record company (press play on clip above for appropriate background music). So trivial is EMI to Citigroup's business that the vast, meaningless New York corporation does not report the results of its music division separately, because commercially the recordings of the Beatles and Pink Floyd are trivial compared to the latest set of lending fees of FX trades. Citigroup, of course, is hardly a logical owner of EMI, but it is depressing to consider that the future of such an important of the music business, or indeed British culture is in the hands of a bank. New book on John Lennon clarifies myths, inaccuracies - The Daily Republican

He has an enormous P.R. machine around him now. He dies at age 40 – he is killed. (Mark David Chapman fatally Lennon on shot Dec. 8, 1980.) Our culture is incredibly screwed up around death – a lot of people tend to elevate him, he has been elevated as a martyr. A lot of his persona has been airbrushed. In his life he was a controversial person, in death. We choose not to remember that. We want to elevate him as a peacenik – like he was this holy guy. So we have that whole problem, and banging up against Yoko’s P.R. machine. She is very protective of him. It is far more sophisticated than when he was alive. Read More - The Daily Republican

John Lennon - Mind Games (Album Review)

When he began working on Mind Games, John Lennon had no idea that the completed project would serve as the starting point for a storyline that eventually would span three albums. At the time, he really wasn’t focused on anything. On the eve of recording the endeavor, Yoko Ono sent Lennon packing with the hope that he would sort through his demons and return a better man. Lennon documented his loneliness on Walls and Bridges, and he highlighted his reconciliation with Ono on Double Fantasy. Although both endeavors are more cohesive than Mind Games, the latter set truly is where his lengthy narrative began. Read More - Mind Games (Album Review) (c) Music Box

John Lennon's Birthday: A Look at the Lennon Legacy [PHOTOS & VIDEOS]

As the Beatles began to break apart in 1969, Lennon and his new wife, Yoko Ono, spent their honeymoon holding two week-long Bed-Ins for Peace in Amsterdam and Montreal. It was their way of protesting war and promoting contemplation and love. The press largely ridiculed the effort, and the lyrics for "The Ballad of John and Yoko" express Lennon's frustration. When asked afterward if the event had been successful, however, Lennon insisted that the failure of the press to take the couple seriously was part of what he and Yoko wanted. "It's part of our policy not to be taken seriously," he said. "Our opposition, whoever they may be, in all manifest forms, don't know how to handle humor. And we are humorous." See More/Videos

Don`t Bother Me is the Quiet Beatle`s first original composition. It`s been given a bad rap as showing George`s anti-social side and hostility towards others. Actually, he`d been sick and penned a tune to pass the time as he recovered. Philip Goldberg: George Harrison: Quiet Beatle, Vocal Guru

In the 200 years that Eastern spiritual traditions have been filtering into American life, the propagators have included great artists as well as gurus, scholars and scientists. We have absorbed the principles of Hinduism, Buddhism and other Asian religions through the poems of T.S. Eliot and W.B. Yeats; the novels of Herman Hesse, Somerset Maugham and J.D. Salinger; the films of Satyajit Ray and Merchant-Ivory (not to mention "Gandhi"); the music of John Coltrane and Philip Glass; and through various forms of dance, painting and sculpture. He also did the guitar arrangements and played on the original Jesus Christ Superstar, and made a famous cameo in Pink Floyd's "Money," where he says, prophetically, "I don't know, I was really drunk at the time."
