Mills: 'I've spent most of my settlement'

Heather Mills has revealed that she has spent most of the £24.3 million divorce settlement she received from Sir Paul McCartney. Speaking to Hello!, Mills claimed that she has given most of the cash away, saying: "A lot of it has gone to charity and I kept some to invest in projects and causes that will make this world a better place." The 40-year-old added that "ridiculous" stories about her in the British tabloids had prompted her to uproot to the US. "It seems like I can really get a lot done in America," she commented. SOURCE

Painters, peaceniks to meet in memory of Lennon

In 1940, before the United States had entered World War II, and when Denver reached to the sky with a scant few buildings, half the world away in the midst of the Battle of Britain, John Lennon was born. At that time, there wasn't a lot connecting Liverpool to Denver, but event planner Dana Cain has her own ideas. On Oct. 9, she'll be putting on the Imagine Peace Paint-In at Civic Center Park -- where artists, students and peace activists will gather for art and expression. [...more...]

'Electronic Arguments' features thirteen tracks written by the former Beatle and is the first Fireman album to feature vocals. My magical mystery tour: Sir Paul McCartney's return to Israel

It started with an act of contrition in January when Ron Prosor, Israel's ambassador to Britain, apologised for Israel's "missed opportunity" when it banned The Beatles from the country in 1965. It ended in Hayarkon Park on Thursday night with an excited Tel Aviv audience feeling self-evidently better about themselves, thanks to a Paul McCartney trip 43 years late. Sir Paul had prepared for the visit with an attention to detail few other superstars would have matched. It was not just the Hebrew patter he painstakingly learnt; it was also a canny ability to steer his way through the hypersensitivities of a visit that might have gone badly wrong. [...more...]

Being John Lennon

I always knew I was going to make it, but I wasn’t sure in what manifestation,” said John Lennon in a 1980 Playboy interview. “I used to read the reviews of books and art and music before I ever put anything out and I’d half expect to see my name in the review, even though I hadn’t written a book or a song — I was expecting to see myself in newspapers, to be famous. I knew it was just a matter of time.” Conducted months before his December 8 death, the Playboy interview with David Scheff underscored the fact that Lennon’s abbreviated life was a 40-year entanglement with immortality. Paul McCartney rocks Tel Aviv

Despite the threats from extremists groups, Sir Paul McCartney's concert made a deep impact on the Israeli crowd, as they sang along to his song 'Give Peace a Chance'. The concert, held on Thursday night, had a play list of all the Beatles favourites, which included songs like Yesterday, Hey Jude, Eleanor Rigby and Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band. But the song that really caught the Tel Aviv crowd was the peace anthem, which had a thousand waving cell phones after Sir Paul dedicated the song to his late fellow Beatle, John Lennon, and sang about the folly of war. Among the crowd was 12-year-old Naama Shahaf, who usually listened to the Beatles tracks on MP3 files, but enjoyed the concert just as much, with her mother Dafna, 43, who first listened to the band on vinyl. Evolving John Lennon art show is part of Yoko Ono's mission

When Yoko Ono started showing John Lennon's artwork in the '80s, she was derided as an opportunist and worse. Two decades later she is seen as a keeper of the Lennon legacy, with fans softening on the woman who "broke up the Beatles" as more of the band's history comes to light. The latest exhibit is here through Sunday. You've been on a 20-year mission now to keep John's work in the spotlight. Has it paid off? [...more...]

Israelis flock to McCartney show

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has played his first gig in Israel in front of an estimated 40,000 cheering fans. The 66-year-old singer kicked off the historic concert with the familiar Beatles' song Hello, Goodbye at Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park. Some fans turned up wearing "I love Paul" and Beatles T-shirts. Earlier the star said he was "not nervous, but excited" ahead of the gig, which comes 43 years after The Beatles were banned from performing in Israel. Back in 1965 The Beatles were scheduled to perform, but were prevented taking the stage because of fears they could "corrupt the nation's youth". [...more...]

MCCARTNEY VISITS JESUS' BIRTHPLACE

SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY visited JESUS CHRIST's reported birthplace in a tour of Bethlehem on Wednesday (24Sep08). The former Beatle is in Israel for a peace concert on Thursday night (25Sep08) - and insisted on visiting the Church of the Nativity, which was built over the traditional birthplace of Christ in the fourth century. MCCartney took photos and lit two white candles "for peace." The rocker told reporters that he hoped his visit to the West Bank would appease non-Jewish critics, who have opposed MCCartney's peace concert plans in Tel Aviv. He said, "I'm here to highlight the situation and to say that what we need is peace in this region, a two-state solution. "I get criticised everywhere I go, but I don't listen to them (critics). I'm bringing a message of peace, and I think that's what the region needs." SOURCE

McCartney arrives in the Holy Land

Paul McCartney received a rapturous welcome in the Holy Land on Wednesday, more than four decades after the Beatles were banned from Israel because Golda Meir, prime minister at the time, was said to have regarded Fab Four as a danger to the country's youth. There has been so much publicity about the "Friendship First" concert that McCartney is to give on Thursday in Tel Aviv that one commentator jokingly likened his arrival to the coming of the Messiah. The 66-year-old pop star has accepted an official Israeli apology for snubbing him and the other three Beatles in 1965. [...more...]

Paul McCartney concert in Israel touches a nerve

There's a new Israeli government being formed amid great uncertainty and divisive haggling. On Monday night, a Palestinian plowed his car into a group of Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem, injuring at least 13 people. Callers and local celebrities are being asked to reminisce about their favorite song by the Fab Four or Paul McCartney. [...more...]

CLIFF RICHARD FEARED THE BEATLES

SIR CLIFF RICHARD once feared his career would be ruined by the BEATLES. The Fab Four dominated the music scene in the 1960s and Richard was petrified the band would over take him in the charts. And he admits his concerns were only eased after seeking advice from his manager. He says, "It was alarming only because the media made it alarming. All you ever heard about was The Beatles, every day for two years, almost as though we'd died and gone. "I remember sitting down with my manager and he said, 'Are you still selling records? Are you having number ones? Are you selling out your tours?' The answer to all those questions was yes. So then he said, 'Well, why are you bothered about the Beatles?' That's when the fear left us." MCCARTNEY SENT SPIRITUAL BOOK FROM DALAI LAMA

SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY has received a book from the DALAI LAMA in a bid to help through his controversial Israel gig. The Hey Jude hitmaker is set to play a concert in Israel's capital Tel Aviv on Thursday (25Sep08) but the planned gig has been dogged with controversy after reports circulated stating suicide bombers were planning to target the event. And the Tibetan spiritual leader sent the former Beatle a copy of The Universe In A Single Atom to help him relate Buddhist philosophy to modern times. MCCartney says, "I think we're at a very interesting stage in human development and I just hope for the best and I'm optimistic about it. I'm not so much religious as someone who likes to think I take the best from many religions: the best of what they all have to say. They obviously have a lot of things in common. "I always think of myself as spiritual rather than religious. But I do feel that the world is a magnificent place and that we are blessed to be on it." SOURCE

TED NUGENT OFFERS SECURITY SERVICES TO MCCARTNEY

Wildman rocker TED NUGENT has offered his services to SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY - as a bodyguard. Nugent has offered to head up the former Beatle's personal security detail when MCCartney performs in Israel on Thursday (25Sep08). And, despite the fact the Cat Scratch Fever hitmaker is an avid hunter and MCCartney an animal rights activist, he urges the Brit to take his offer seriously after learning of death threats from Muslim extremists if the ex-Beatle plays the concert to mark Israel’s 60th birthday. Nugent tells WENN, "Regardless that Paul and I have our obvious social, cultural, and culinary differences outside of music, I will not bend or waiver to voodoo religious whackjobs and neither should Paul." Letter To Sir Paul McCartney From A Jewish Activist in Israel

The below letter is a direct response and an objective, accurate correction to Tony Greenstein's letter to Sir Paul McCartney. I try not to copy each and every word of slanderous distortion, incitement and transparent hate for which Greenstein espouses. As someone who grew up in New York, I read with pleasure that you were to play a concert in Tel Aviv, Israel on September 25th. Your announcement is headed: “My message is a peaceful one” as the very people who are the victims of unrelenting violence, suicide bomb attacks, terror attacks on buses, shopping centers and restaurants embrace you in defying life threats by Islamic clergy and suicide bombers in coming to Israel. I refer to the people of Israel. [...more...]

She claims she became a hate figure in Britain and was seen as a gold digger for marrying MCCartney just four years after the death of his long-term wife Linda. John Lennon Biographer Defends Personal Revelations In New Book

Noted rock author Phillip Norman is amazed that Yoko Ono has disapproved of his upcoming 800-page biography on John Lennon: The Life, calling the book "too mean" to Lennon's memory. As with Norman's 1981 book, Shout! The Beatles In Their Generation, Yoko worked closely with Norman, and only after reading the finished manuscript has she disowned the project. Norman, who is among the most revered of rock authors, can't believe that Ono is upset over the book contents, when it was the late Beatles'widow who supplied so much of the revealing content: "In the end, it was the spirit of the book, I think, that she didn't like. And it was surprising to me, because the book was written in the way that I'd always written about John (which was) through Yoko talking to me, which is always in this very loving but kind of exasperated sort kind of tone: 'Oh that was so John'kind of thing -- so I was astonished when she just seemed to dislike it in such totality, but I do hope that she's going to change that view." Beatles' first drummer is beyond the 'what ifs'

Pete Best isn't bitter. The former Beatle doesn't ponder what if, doesn't rue what might have been and doesn't begrudge the millions he certainly would have earned. Forty-six years after Beatles' manager Brian Epstein told him he was out of the band, Best is perfectly content to tour the world with his group, the Pete Best Band. He moved on. He let it be. In fact, says Best, should he ever run into Paul McCartney again -- and the two haven't spoken since Best departed in August 1962 -- he wouldn't say, "Tell me why." [...more...]

Stella McCartney at London Fashion Week: makes going to the gym sexy

Stella McCartney even makes going to the gym sexy. Junking the traditional catwalk motif, McCartney turned an empty hall into a futuristic health club Tuesday and filled it with ace gymnasts wearing her new activewear line for adidas. The young women did somersaults off trampolines, performed Olympic-style feats on the balance beam, and set a fast pace on treadmills to show the clothes in action. MCCARTNEY DENIES 'GAY LENNON' CLAIMS

SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY has furiously dismissed claims his former BEATLES bandmate JOHN LENNON wanted a gay relationship with him. Author Philip Norman claims in a new biography, John Lennon: The Life, that the late star lusted over MCCartney. But the singer is adamant Lennon did not have homosexual tendencies- but admits they often shared a bed. MCCartney says, "I don't think (the gay claims) are true. John never ever tried anything, I slept with him a million times. "I've seen him on tour roaring drunk, out of his mind in the early days before he sobered up and went to rehab. Roaring drunk and it was always with a female. If you've got a little gay tendency and your roaring drunk I'd have caught him once." SOURCE

John Lennon's Spirituality

The article notes that while John handed over his business dealings to Yoko in order to care for young Sean on a day to day basis, the famous twosome also became adherents of astrology and numerology. Mintz notes that while he kept his humor about it all, he was also convinced that the family's belief systems and rituals helped transmogrify Lennon. In 1981 he told Rolling Stone "We sometimes joked about the paradox of [Lennon] singing 'God' and 'I don't believe in I Ching and I don't believe in magic and I don't believe in Buddha and I don't believe in Krishna' - but let me tell you, he believed in all of it." SEPTEMBER THE ELEVENTH by Yoko Ono

9/11 affected me like it affected you. It was frightening. I was in New York and I was frightened. In my life, the most scary thing that had happened was World War II. I was in Tokyo when enemy planes were coming in, bombing the city. So I see it a little differently to the Americans who had never experienced an attack on their homeland. Pearl Harbour was different because it was on an island, further away. I thought of 3 things on September 11th: first was the second World War, second was the day of John's passing - because it happened equally unexpectedly - and third were the people who lost their partner or a family member. Beatles: You Say You Want a ‘Revolution’?

When the Beatles released “Hey Jude,” the track that would become their most commercially successful single release 40 years ago, its B-side “Revolution” would “only” make it to No. 12 on the charts. MILLS ‘CONCOCTED MCCARTNEY ABUSE CLAIMS FOR CASH’

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY's ex-wife HEATHER MILLS made up claims of domestic abuse in a bid to win a big cash payout for family videos, her former publicist has revealed. The ex-glamour model made the damning allegations during the former couple's bitter divorce battle earlier this year (08), accusing McCartney of being abusive towards her throughout their marriage. She claimed she had video evidence to back up her accusations and forced her ex-spokeswoman Michele Elyzabeth to find a willing buyer. American TV moguls expressed an interest in the video footage and offered $1.85 million (£1 million) for the tape. But when they flew over to the U.K. to see what their money would buy them, they reportedly discovered Mills only possessed videos of the family's happy home life - with nothing to suggest McCartney had been violent towards her. Elyzabeth recalls, "Heather told me she'd made this documentary about her relationship with Paul, which showed he was an abusive husband. She said that it was going to be explosive and destroy Paul's world. It would prove to the world he was an abuser... "Heather told me she'd produced the film in England, and asked how much we could get for it... They (U.S. TV executives) were ready to pay a large sum and I told Heather it could fetch a million." But when they viewed the film, Elyzabeth claims the TV bosses realised they had been duped by Mills. She adds, "Heather had manipulated this whole thing just to find out how much money she could get for selling her personal family home videos... The b**ch lied. It was now obvious there was no documentary of any sort." Mills was awarded a $44.9 million (£24.3 million) divorce settlement in March (08). SOURCE

Pete Best, Cryers headed to Theatre 145

A former Beatle is headed to Erie. No, not Paul. He's playing Israel. No, not Ringo. He's completed his summer U.S. tour. We mean Pete Best, the original Beatles drummer, who was unceremoniously drummed out for Ringo Starr just before the Beatles blew up huge in England and later conquered the USA and the world. Pete Best Band has toured the U.S. heavily the past few years, with Best concentrating on early Beatles songs that he actually played on, as well R&B covers the band frequently played during its Cavern Club and barn-storming days in Germany. Apple to announce something music-related Sept. 9

The Apple invitation is being analyzed and deciphered -- a fuchsia-colored man jumping with white iPod headphones. One point to anyone who guessed it would be music-related. Most likely, the Cupertino, Calif., company will unveil a refreshed line of iPods at the Sept. 9 gathering. Maybe a few bands or musicians will perform, since the event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts theater in San Francisco. Some speculate Apple could announce that the Beatles catalog will join iTunes. One thing the announcement apparently won't be about: a digital music subscription service. Music-industry sources say such a service, which Apple has been discussing for a while, isn't going anywhere at the moment. [...more...]
